If your mobile is subscribed with GPRS, EDGE or 3G service, the mobile can be connected to PC to surf internet. The mobile phone works as Modem. Here explaining the steps to configure Ubuntu 9.04 to connect the mobile phone to surf internet. There is no application software need to be downloaded. Here I’ve used Nokia phone to connect.

Step1

Connect the phone to the USB port of the computer with suitable data cable. Select the option “PC Suit” in mobile (For Nokia).

Step 2

In UbuntuĀ  go to System > Preferences > Network connections

In network connection select the tab Mobil broadband > +Add > Forward

Select the service Country> India

Select the service provider from the list – Airtel, BSNL, Hutch, Idea, Vodaphone etc.

Click on the Network manager and connect the newly created connection
